First Look At Will Ferrell's 'Land Of The Lost' Suggests A Budget Comparable To That Of The Original Series
Posted by Seth at 3:03 AM on March 27, 2008
JFXOnline gives us the first glimpses from the set of Land of the Lost, Will Ferrell's next big screen foray, based on the beloved Sid and Marty Krofft Saturday morning sci-fi adventure. Originally conceived as a huge budget adventure comedy, the disappointing™ performance of Semi-Pro has led jittery Universal execs to cut some budgetary corners wherever possible. That means plans for spectacular soundstage sets and expensive CGI sequences will be replaced with location shooting, sending the actors and crew on an L.A. scavenger hunt that brought them to the Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits (above), the terrariums of Santa Monica's Water Garden, and the Apple Store at the Grove, which stood in nicely for the Pylons and matrix tables.

Ok, this guy is funny and all, but hasnt he lost some luster yet? I put him in the pile of luckiest man alive.

@Little Mintz Sunshine: Didn't he lose all that weight by taking up marathoning? He must have the lungs of a horse.

@farklefish:
You'd have a stroke if you ever saw your favorite writers and visual artists gathered in one room. Assuming you could see them thru the smoke. When you in a biz with a lot of sitting in one place/down time you develop at least one of three habits: eating, smoking and/or drinking.

@jackvinyl: Funny, I was gonna suggest Rumer, Scout or Tallelujah Belle...

JudgeFudge, I hope that in the movie he thinks he has found it.

@farklefish: You have mighty high celeb standards. New in town?

I can only pray that this movie is mostly Will Ferrel walking around the La Brea tar pits, smoking, grumbling about how he can't find the damn land of the lost anywhere!

If casting is not completed, I vote Steve Buscemi for the leader of the Sleestaks.

Am I the only one still surprised when I see celebs (but not the dieting starlets) smoking?

@Juancho: Exactly what I was thinking. How the hell do you smoke and run marathons? Does he get martinis in those little paper cups at the mile markers, too?

@SneakingThroughTheAlleyWithLalley: Considering I think his only funny movie was Elf, I think you're on to something.

@farklefish: I'm more upset/confused by the pleated khakis. Unless he plays a computer programmer, but I think even they stopped wearing them 3-5 years ago.

McFerrell's. I likes it.
The urbane, sexually enlightened professor character on SNL was McFarrell at his comedy gold best.
Who's the Carl's Jr. of comedy?
That Steve Carell dude is starting to give me majorsoftitude of the wang.

You're right, he is funny. But he's funny in small amounts on SNL not spread out over 90 minutes to 2 hours. And that's the case with practically everyone that's come out of SNL: they're best in that particular sketch comedy format but once they get into the longer more slick medium of movies, their comedic abilities show signs of cracking and aging.
Ferrell essentially plays the same character in every movie as opposed to his SNL days where he had some sort of range with characters. Defamer is good for acknowledging his 'guy out of his league' character-type-thing(I forget the exact words used here).
Anyway, I'd opt for Carl's Jr. any day over McFerrell's. ;-]

oh no, is this the utterly predictable "backlash"? don't be cultural heroes. the guy's a laugh riot and Mickey D's is delicious two or three times a week. period.

Will Ferrell is so horribly untalented.
I know this fact does nothing to prevent anyone getting film roles and becoming famous but he particularly gets on my nerves with his hideous acting and awful 'comedic' style.
I once contemplated my life on a 12 flight from LA to Dublin where there were no less than FOUR (4!) Will Ferrel movies on the in-flight entertainment system. I actually lost faith in the world - try dealing with that at 3,000 feet.

@OldTowneTavern: Oh, god, if that were possible I'd take up Marathoning again myself!

@farklefish: This one surprises me. I mean, all actors are neurotics who are obsessed with being thin, but you'd think being a Marathoner would trump that.
