Defamer Does L'oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival: Day Two
Posted by Clem Bastow at 9:25 AM on March 5, 2008
Defamer Australia is by now existing solely on promotional ice-creams and mineral water and chewed up paper from the pages of Vogue, all so we can continue to bring you the news from L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. We spent another evening installed at Central Pier's lavish Paris Runway thrilling to the front row and the catwalk. So, put on that Anna Wintour wig we know you keep in the top drawer for times like this, and read on for your daily dose...
ON THE CATWALK - WE LOVED
* Megan Park, making up for 2008's lack of Alannah Hill, with a gorgeous collection of beaded frocks and one particularly beautiful black, beaded trench coat.
* Christine's Slinkee-esque springy fur (faux, we hope) scarf.
* Maticevski's EVERYTHING, but particularly this dress, which reminded us of the fish flakes on the top of our favourite Japanese pizza (in a good way). Hey, it's been a while since we've had to come up with fash analogies, give us a break. Also, Maticevski gets massive points for using Left Eye's Block Party and Icehouse's Great Southern Land as his soundtrack.
* Lee Mathews' pretty, relaxed separates.
* Martin Grant's gobsmacking quicksilver lamé gown, worn by the fabulous Kate Peck.
* Zimmerman's use of Muscles Peace, Love, Ecstasy.
* Obus' St Trinians-esque stripy socks and coordinated separates.
* The gorgeous, sad-eyed ranga model who stacked during Christine's parade, only to jump back up, Rocky-style, waving her scarf in the air. Festival Director Karen Webster approved, punching the air and clapping wildly.
ON THE CATWALK - WE LOL'D
* Kate Sylvester's dress is watching you.
* Kate Sylvester's gloved skivvies - the actual note in our notebook reads, scribbled furiously, "Kate Sylvester glove skivvy WTF?"
* Gorman's traffic safety leggings, which even the sylphlike model couldn't carry off.
* Gail Sorronda's entire collection - it's like it's 1988 again and everyone's invited!
IN THE FRONT ROW
* Miranda Otto-watch: wearing an incredible black frock tonight, georgette with huge butterfly sleeves made out of petals of soft leather. A woman behind us, as Otto took her seat, actually screamed, "CASHMERE MAFIA!"
* Zandra Rhodes-watch: Rhodes was back again, resplendent in silver and blue lamé pleats and enormous sparkly accessories. She was more interested in her free ice-cream than much of Runway 2, and when the treat was done, resumed her beatific/bored grin in the direction of the catwalk.
* Michala Banas looking pretty in a duck-egg-blue taffeta frock with a tuxedo shirtfront - but she is TINY! Like, Kylie-small!
Come back tomorrow as we continue to turn to the right, turn to the left, etc.
