Oscar Ladies in Red

Perhaps to inject the otherwise snoozy Oscars tonight (no parties! Stewart again! predictable winners!) with some pizazz, the actresses on the carpet went with red dresses in all shades: Katherine Heigl, sans Josh as far as we could tell, wore a fire engine red one-strap number; Miley Cyrus proved she's still a girl, but not yet a woman, in a tight bright red dress to show off her underage, yet budding, figure; Helen Mirren proved once again that being a slightly more "mature" actress in no way means you can't look sexy. Take a look at all the ladies who took red and made it work:
Anne Hathaway in Marchesa, Helen Mirren, and Heidi Klum in John Galliano.
Katherine Heigl, Miley Cyrus.
Ruby Dee and Julie Christie.

@CJC: You're right, thanks for the quick correction! Oh how I wish she was though...if you've ever seen her on red carpets showing off her gams, you'd be wishing she had too.

Helen Mirren is hot. And she looks great too. But she's definitely not Ruby Dee. In fact, I don't even know who Ruby Dee is. Now I have to google her, dammit.

that color is lovely on anne hathaway but the dress is just so ridiculous looking. what happened to the shoulder there? is she wearing a matching lei draped smartly accross her breasts?

I had no idea the one shoulder strap look was still so huge. Also no idea that Miley Cirus was incredibly husky-voiced. That kid sounds like she smokes more than Kate Heigl.

I can't help but think, looking at Ms. Christies' entire ensemble, that she does not own a dishwasher and must make sure those pesky brunch time glasses, plates and utensils are washed the instant she gets home...
