Hey Hey Hey Hey: A Video Tribute To Molly Ringwald On Her 40th Birthday
Posted by Mark Graham at 10:55 AM on February 7, 2008
It's days like this when we realise that the slow march of time will one day get us all. But rather than cower in the face of the impending onset of arthritis and Old Person Smell, we instead chose to assign Intrepid Defamer Videographer™ Molly McAleer the enviable task of creating an `80s-tastic video tribute to everyone's favorite icon of Reagan Era adolescence, Molly Ringwald. Happy 40th birthday, Molly -- you'll always be our favorite firecrotch.

Molly is of the Neve Campbell school of acting... all facial tics and voice inflections. But I love her.
Incidentally, I saw her at a restaurant once and she literally glowed. Gorgeous skin.

So many Mollys.
Kudos to including the Facts of Life scene. That season was the greatest!

I loved Pretty in Pink, but let's be honest. I wouldn't have wanted Ducky or Blaine. A better love interest and a better dress would've improved the movie tenfold.

I always thought that her "Pretty in Pink" dress, the one that she made for the prom from cut up pieces of old dresses given to her by Annie Potts was horribly, horribly ugly. Was this some kind of evil plot to get kids to wear their mother's cut up cast offs as "fashion?" Oh, and Ducky was the bomb!

Huge fan of her stuff. Love it...Just love. Although I must say that I would have chosen Ducky in "Pretty in Pink" not Mr. Posh-whatshisface. He especially won brownie points with me when he did that Otis Redding reenactment.

@hack-a-rific: See, we may have thought we were moving forward in time, but this just proves that we've really been caught in some hideous Twilight Zonish time loop. We are actually at the mercy of a sociopathic freckle faced kid who's probably about to send me to a cornfield for blowing the whistle.

@Her_royal_Highness: John Hughes thought so too; apparently he wrote Some Kind of Wonderful in response to the studio's making him change the ending to Pretty in Pink.

@el smrtmnky: He was beautiful wasn't he? One of my first boycrushes. He quit the business years ago and owns a furniture making business in Penn. Not that I'm stalking him or anything.

Sweet. Reportedly, there is talk of a sequel: "36 Candles." I wouldn't mind seeing what "Steph" (James Spader")has been doing for the past 24 years.

@TryThisAtHome: I agree, the dress was horrible. It looked better before she tore it to shreds.

Even though Molly's not a real firecrotch, I love her nonetheless.
And I would have chosen Ducky as well, even though he was a flaming 'mo. I mean, c'mon, people.

I just Googled Molly to see what has been up with her, and everything lists her birthday as February 18. Is it actually today?

I still can't pick-up a pair of sunglasses without thinking, "for better hallway viewing."
Perhaps it's because I'm inching closer and closer to that 40-year-old milestone than I care to think about, but once Spicoli turned 40, I am no longer shocked by the members of the Brat Pack turning 40.

@Her Royal Empress Dr. Bufflekins III, Esq.: Have no fear- the early years are on the Facts of Life box set! Yes, I own it (and totally got it b/c it has the boarding house eps).
