Bon Scott Memorial Statue Will Be Pleasingly True To Life
We’re big fans of both Bon Scott and Bon Scott-era AC/DC (as if there were any other) here at Defamer Australia, so when we heard – via, er, The Bon Scott Fan Club email newsletter – that a statue was being planned in his home state of Western Australia, we were a little concerned that it might not capture the man’s true greatness, so to speak.
We are, then, pleased to announce that no such indignity will be suffered by Scott’s memory – or, for that matter, the memory of his pants:
West Australian Bon Scott Fan Club president Doug Thorncroft, who pushed for almost a decade to have a permanent tribute to his Scottish-born hard rock hero, said the statue was just right.“It’s true Bon in his rock and roll singer stance. He’s giving it all to the crowd, he said.
“He’s got a microphone in his left hand, tilted up and the cable from the amp on the right, and it’s just so Bon.
“His jeans are painted on with his package bulging out.”
And, lo, God said it was good, and it was.
The statue will be fully unveiled this weekend.

Don Coleman, who is Canada’s Premiere AC/DC Vocalist, has recorded this song to celebrate the life and spirit of Bon Scott. With the anniversary of Bon’s death and the unveiling of a statue to Bon Scott concert this week in Fremantle, Western Aust., it is a timely song.
The song has been airing daily on Rebel FM Network in Queensland / NSW (40 stations) plus weekly on two stations near Fremantle, WA, PERTH 107.3 FM and Twin Cities FM 89.7 FM. There are more Australian FM Stations joining these stations every day. The song launched last week on a show dedicated to the memory of Bon Scott on WRUW FM 91.1 in Cleveland, Ohio (home of the R&R Hall of Fame). On the show, Don gave an on air interview along with Susan Masino, published author of “Let There Be Rock” a book on Bon & AC/DC, and President of the Bon Scott Fan Club, Doug Thorncroft who both love the song. The Canadian launch happens this w/e, to coincide with the statue event, on the Newcap FM Net on K-Rock 105.5 FM in Charlottetown, PEI and will also include an interview with Don.
Other reviews of the song come from the “Party Boys” band who are performing at the Fremantle event. The members – Vince Lovegrove (former bandmate of Bon’s in “The Valentines”), Aussie Legend – Kevin Borich and “Angels” drummer Buzz Bidstrup all think this is a ‘ripper’ song. This week I also got a request for the song from former long time friend of Bon and long time bassist for Ozzy Osbourne, Bob Daisley.
Don has been receiving offers from : England, Scotland, Germany, Italy, Scandinavia, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the USA, to front many bands and to do tours. One such offer came from the original frontman for AC/DC, Dave Evans who will also be performing at Fremantle concert.
You can listen to the song by visiting the dedicated site at: http://www.myspace.com/doncoleman (if not in blue just copy and paste into your browser). It would be great if you would consider doing an article on Don Coleman, the song, Bon and the Statue unveiling in Fremantle.
