Australia’s Next Top Model Actually On Her Way To Being Top Model; World In Shock

alice_burdeu_proenza_schouler(2).jpgLooks as though Alice Burdeu is the first winner of the Next Top Model franchise (both Australian and internationally) to really be proving she was a deserving winner – to wit, she looks set to actually become just that, a top model! No doubt the contestants in the upcoming fourth cycle of AusNTM are feeling the bar set just a little too high for them.

She has already shot a Vogue Australia cover, and the Napoleon Perdis campaign, not to mention a successful few months modelling in Singapore – now she is installed in New York City, where she (and her agency, Elite) had hoped she’d book a couple of Fashion Week gigs. Well, she got more than a few – including Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler and Marchesa – and the fashion world has sat up and taken notice.

Alice has been featured on the front page of Style.com (Vogue’s online incarnation), is still New York Magazine’s front page Fashion Week image (walking for Marc Jacobs), and – most excitingly (though it may not so much as raise an eyebrow in those who don’t follow the fashion world obsessively) touted as a Top 10 Newcomer on Models.com, which has rightly been described as “the NASDAQ of modelling”. Former MDC newcomers include current mega models Agyness Deyn and Coco Rocha – so to say they know how to pick the stars would be an understatement.

Go Alice!

Defamer Australia public service announcement: we will be interviewing Alice this week and want YOU, the Defamer family, to be a part of it all. Leave your questions for the leggy stunner in the comments and tune back in later to read her responses!

Go Alice! I never thought she’d win because I thought she deserved to win and I’m so glad she’s so successful!!

  • Bronte

Hey Alice! Congrats on all of your success. Have you signed on with an agency in France yet? And are you planning to walk in the Europe shows this fall? Also, of the NY shows, which was your favourite and why?

  • Lachie

Congrats to you Alice. My question is: In your Marchesa showcase, did you know that one of the other girls, Ksenia Kahnovich, was also a winner of a Next Top Model. She won Russia’s Next Top Model and also found success in the industry. You and her are two of three top model winner who made it. Do you think that because you were on Australia’s Next Top Model, it was harder to make it?

and also what makes you different from all the Top Model winners who didn’t make it?

Still keep in touch with any of your castmates or judges from Australia’s Next Top Model? I know Alex Perry was your biggest fan on the show.

  • Nad

Alice! Congratulations on all your success! What do you think attributed to your success recently during your first fashion week?

  • Amy

You are so beautiful and i watched antm religously just because of you seriously. I am also tall, red haired (although i know your not) and thin you are one of my heros and inspirations. I was always teased about my weight and you being so brave and facing people like you did really inspired me to try not to acknowledge ill spirited people like that.Congrats on getting the Marc Jacobs show (OMMG!) and hope to see more of you in the near future. Just one question how do you control your butterflies when going to casting calls?

  • Anthony

Well done Alice on Alice on an exceptional debut season on the New York Catwalks. Marc Jacobs and Proenza are big deals!

The media is making it out to say that you’re the next big thing in the editorial world. Is this the case, do you feel that you’r moving up and that more clients are responding to you as a model? Oh, and are you doing the upcoming european ready to wear seasons? With which agencies?

  • peter

I am so excited for you that you are making so much headway into the modelling world! You were always the superior choice. I mean, Steph could never have done what you did this season. I was wondering if the Prada rumours are true, are you optioned? and if so, how does the option system work?

  • luke

have you changes since top model or even by the industry? Love u alice!

  • mike

How is being in NY and all? Is is really surreal?

  • Gill

Well done Alice, I have been following your career since NTM and I am genuinely delighted for you.

I would love to know is the Elite model house you are staying in anything like the house in NTM??

  • Kerry

Well done, Alice! I think you’ve done a magnificent job so far. My question is: what show or campaign do you hope to do in the future? What’s your top goal in modelling?

  • Carolyn from Canada

    Hi Alice!

I am thrilled for you! I admired your quiet confidence and sense of humour on the show, and your pictures and runway walk were inspiring. I’m definitely not suprised that your talent is being recognized, but kudos for you for reaching such heights in the modelling world.

One thing about your Australia’s Next Top Model win sticks out in my mind, and that was an online interview you gave where people could post comments live. Basically, people gave you a REALLY hard time, and I remember just being appalled about what they were saying about you based on just the footage they saw from Top Model. I’m so glad you’re proving all of those overly critical 16 year-old computer potatoes wrong!!!

My question for you is this: on the show, your wardrobe during judgings was absolutely unreal. Have you ever thought about becoming a designer when you get older?

Best of luck to you, Alice.

  • Tim

I think shes quite ugly guys, are you all blind???

  • Lisa

I was thrilled to see billboards of you on the cover of a magazine when I was in New York in May. It was so exciting and that’s when I knew you had really become a Top Model. I knew you were the standout all along, and you pulled through and gained the strength you needed to secure your very deserved win. Your looks are so unusal but exquisitely beautiful. I know you are going to go on to even greater heights and we’ll see you around for a long time to come.

  • Agnieszka

    You are extra ordinary……….
