We Are Slightly Excited By News Of A Fresh Aussie Soap - And Have Some Ideas Of Our Own

A few months ago, we learned that the BBC were creating a new Aussie soap called 'Out Of The Blue' to replace Neighbours, as the folks from Ramsay Street were moving over to another channel. Now we read Australians will be able to watch the show, for Channel Ten have excitedly grabbed the series for themselves.

Reports News Ltd -

The BBC commissioned the series last year after it lost rights to Neighbours to rival channel 5 in a deal worth $750 million over eight years. The BBC needed a replacement and ordered 130 episodes of the five night a week soap from Australian production company Southern Star Entertainment - but no local networks were involved.

The series will feature a regular cast of 20 led by up and comer Miss Saigon/Stupid Stupid Man star Sophie Katinis, Zoe Carides (Grass Roots), Clayton Watson (Always Greener) and Daisy Betts (Sea Patrol).

Ten would either air five nights a week - possibly as a 6pm lead in to Neighbours - or be edited it into two one hour episodes per week.

The series is about old friends gathering for a school reunion who become embroiled in a murder mystery when one of their own is murdered at the party.

"We are thrilled to have secured Out Of The Blue," Ten Programming Chief David Mott said today.

"The BBC have a reputation for commissioning exceptional dramas and we look forward to working with them again after having formed a firm relationship over the years on Neighbours.

"Out Of The Blue has a great script, exciting casting and is a fresh and engaging series from the very first minute."

Most importantly, it is named after a Delta Goodrem song. We think there is potential here, people. What other television shows could be inspired by the musical works of the future Mrs That Bloke Who Was In Westlife? We knuckled down for literally thirty seconds and came up with the following concept.

BORN TO TRY - 28 year old University student Dale Masters (Matt Doran) has spent the last ten years of his life floating around campus, happy living in the magical world of academia but seemingly oblivious to the fact he just doesn't have the smarts to achieve his dream of finally finishing his Arts degree! Although Dale isn't exactly built like an athlete, the grumpy but ultimately good-hearted coach of the university's rugby league team Mick 'Bricko' Brick (Shane Connor, putting the woes of his time on Neighbours as Joe Scully behind him) spots Dale in the library and puts him in the team as fullback on a crazy whim. Lo and behold, it seems Dale is an unstoppable scoring machine on the field! Will Dale's natural gifts on the footy field lead to the team winning their first grand final ever? Also starring Rowena Wallace as Dale's older girlfriend Trish, and the entire Elmaloglou clan as The Rest Of The Team.

We are going to slap ourselves now, to save you the trouble.
