Blog Hating Jim Schembri Gets Abused At The AFI Awards, Responds Like An Angry Blogger.
3:55PM Jess McGuire | Ah, public spats – you gotta love ‘em. The one I’m currently viewing from afar involves an AFI award winner, a well-timed profanity, and one hurt pissed off critic.
Let’s allow Jim Schembri, film reviewer for The Age and blog-hating blogger, tell his own tale of woe.
A telling thing happened at the AFI Awards on Saturday night. And it was all because of me.
While accepting an award for best original screenplay for The Black Balloon, co-writer Jimmy Jack took public exception to my long-standing criticisms of the Australian film industry, and of his film. He read some of it out, then followed it by saying “Jim Schembri. F*** you.”
This undignified descent into blogspeak – whatever remaining shreds of class the AFI awards had are now gone – reportedly drew a spontaneous round of applause from some in the crowd.
I didn’t realise the term “Jim Schembri. Fuck you!” was official blogspeak, but as a Professional Blogger TM, I plan on finishing every post with it from now on as I would hate to be seen as behind the interweb times! The other bloggers would, like, totes stop linking to me!! OMG

YouTube Clip Of The Day
12:26PM Jess McGuire | This is strangely adorable and kind of brilliant. Fingers breakdancing, oh yes…
My genius friend Fluffy posted in on Facebook. Thanks for letting me steal stuff from you, woman! More » Hot New Band: Savage Garden
11:27AM Jess McGuire | From culturally relevant website Hipster Runoff:
“I’ve been listening to a lot of electro from Australia during 2k8, and it made me yearn for more well-crafted Australian pop electro music. I uncovered a new band called Savage Garden that every blog house fan will learn to love. I would describe them as a mix of Cut Copy and Pnau, highlighting the best elements of each band.”
Hipster Runoff is pretty much my favourite thing in the world at the moment. I am obsessed! The only thing which could possibly make me love it more would be discovering the writer, Carles, is actually Zach Galifianakis.

10:32AM Jess McGuire | The best thing I ever did was subscribe to Lindsay Lohan’s blog! She posts regularly, they’re always short enough to be consumed quickly, but with enough gossip to ensure that what I’m reading will probably be quoted in next week’s NW Magazine, and unlike Courtney Love, she doesn’t post eighteen different blog entries over a two hour period which feature nothing but pictures of designer dresses she likes.
In Lindsay’s latest missive (an entry called ‘Always the truth – scouts honour’), she talks about how she and Sam are still together, and how much she loves MySpace. God, does she love MySpace. LOVES. IT. SO. HARD. Nearly as much as she loves her girl Samantha.
so….
today i was out with my friend Jamie and paparazzi wouldn’t stop asking me where samantha was. and i’m not writing this blog because i feel like i need to prove that i’m with my girl to anyone at all. but because it’s just annoying. and i want to vent. and i love myspace because it allows me to vent without having to deal with the noise of the “tabloids” and “stalkerazzi’s” ….
Don’t let those “reporters” from “the papers” with their “dictaphones” and “cameras” get you down, Linds. You’ll always have your MySpace blog readers! Like “me”! More » Top Gear Australia’s Warren Brown Defends The Show Against Complaints Made By Angry Car Companies
9:28AM Jess McGuire | After the nation learned yesterday that certain car companies were less than thrilled with the way the lads at Top Gear Australia had treated their vehicles ($200,000 worth of damage, anyone?), one of the show’s hosts has defended the program in the Daily Telegraph.
Let’s give Warren Brown a moment, shall we?
Newspaper reports have this week suggested that Top Gear Australia has racked up a significant figure in car repair bills as a result of “eager driving” and “wild and silly stunts”.
Anyone who knows anything about either the UK or Australian versions of Top Gear knows the basic premise of these programs is pretty much about “eager driving and wild and silly stunts”.
Rightio, so the cars were begging for it. I can understand that. Do go on. More » The Footy Show Takes A Good Hard Look At Itself… And Axes Trevor Marmalade
8:42AM Jess McGuire | After a controversy filled year, one of the highlights of which being Sam Newman remarking on air that some women were worthy of coming on (… the show, you perverts! Worthy of coming on the show!), it seems the folks at Channel Nine have examined the program thoroughly, and after much thought they’ve located the show’s weak spot – and decided to give Trevor Marmalade the boot. Wait, what?
Footy Show funnyman Trevor Marmalade has been axed by Channel 9. Marmalade leaves after 15 years with the high-rating show. The shock departure comes as Nine moves to freshen up AFL version of The Footy Show after another turbulent year.
What follows next in the Herald Sun article are four succinct but dramatic lines which almost made me burst into tears, and I don’t even care about The Footy Show. More »
Obama Vs. Boy George: A Study In Fred Armisen-Impression Contrasts
8:18AM Seth | This weekend’s John Malkovich-hosted SNL featured a great many virable moments, if you’ll indulge us the coinage of an incredibly annoying e-jective (make that two incredibly annoying coinages), but we’ll set aside the toe-tapping pleasures of interslack ejaculation for a moment to focus instead on the work of Fred Armisen. Always a strong SNL soldier, Armisen’s star has dimmed of late for what has been deemed a substandard Obama impression—indeed, by Obama himself. More »
WGA Awards Recognise Every Half-Decent Show On TV With Its Own, Worthless Nomination
8:12AM STV | The Writers Guild unveiled its 2009 TV nominees this morning, revealing a radical shift in taste that rotated only one new drama and two new comedies into the year’s Best Series nominations — all replacing old nominees that weren’t on the air this year. Let’s hear it for attrition! More »
Rumor: T.R. Knight Walks Off ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Set
8:06AM Kyle Buchanan | When we asked you which difficult Grey’s Anatomy doc was being punished with less screen time, you resoundingly guessed, “T.R. Knight” (with just one dissenter answering “Boo-urns”). Now, rumours are flying that Knight himself has reduced his screen time to zero by walking off the show entirely.
