We’re Not Entirely Sure What This Says About The Australian Music Industry But We Suspect It Isn’t Nearly As Good As The Event Producer For The ARIA Awards Thinks

Toni-Collette.gifPossibly a rather ominous opening sentence to kick off this article from the weekend which ponders the contenders for ARIA award nominations this year.

James Packer’s wife Erica Baxter, actor Toni Collette and the late Belinda Emmett are all in the running for an ARIA award nomination this year.

Of course, we haven’t heard the full length albums produced by any of the above mentioned ladies, so far be it from us to assume they won’t be startling and passionate works of art which will stand the test of time. Has anyone else? Reviews welcome.

I has heard Erica’s – in fact, I gave it single of the week, though mostly because it was written by Natasha Bedingfield, who I would like to marry.

Nominating Erica = sucking up the ass of the “old money”

Nominating Belinda = playing into the “she died so young, it’s so tragic we’ll honour her music because it’s got far more integrity in her death than in her life”

Nominating Toni = We have famous Aussies in Hollywood! Let’s pretend like we like them and ride their coattails into international success!

Erica Baxter has an album? Haven’t heard it, but it’s said if you play it backwards, the hidden mantra goes “Scientology isn’t evil, just ask Jamie…”

Toni Collette has had an album out for almost a year now (I think it’s that long). It’s called Beautiful Awkward Pictures and has some nice tunes on it and was recorded with her band, The Finish. It’s very mellow/folksy and not commercial at all so probably hasn’t had any airplay on commercial radio or video shits. They did play the video to one of the songs on rage a bit early this year which is how I found it.

She’s quite a good songwriter IMHO and an all round talented biatch.
