You said this much better than I could or did, Jess. The constant victim blaming/slut shaming of female victims of crime in Australia makes me furious. And the Myspace/Goole-stalking element of this kind of “journalism” entirely creeps me out.

Ugh, it’s like what they did to that poor Carly Ryan girl, too. It’s misogynistic victim-blaming, all for sake of the selling a few more newspapers to suckers who love sensationalist bull… the tabloid press in this country can’t resist implying that female victims of crime had it coming to them. It kind of reminds me of that extremist preacher’s “uncovered meat” comment – but oh no, the greedy hypocrites in the media were FULL of righteous indignation then!

Yeah. I tried to find her profile too, as I bet thousands of blokes after the Age published a nice picture of her (taken from MySpace no doubt), all without her consent either – no doubt! Anyway, the profile has been removed and it’s no longer working. It only says she is 24, single and doens’t want kids.
